After a standout season in 2019, winning three premierships from the three pennant teams playing in the Corangamite Bowls Division’s Saturday Divisions 2 and 4 and Midweek Division 3, the Lorne Bowls Club is welcoming some significant changes for season 2020.
Firstly, with the assistance of the Commonwealth Government’s Building Better Regions Fund, we now have a new state of the art playing surface, Dales Pro Weave 1000. This new surface should give us at least a decade of play on one of the best artificial greens in Australia. We also have a new electronic scoreboard to assist spectators in following matches, as well as for competitors to understand the state of the match in real time.
Secondly, we have a new management team in the restaurant, led by Simon Holloway and Anna McIldowie. This will result in a totally revamped menu, but still with an emphasis on value for money and family friendly choices. We encourage you to come and try this new menu, and to experience the enthusiasm of Simon and Anna in exploring the opportunities that the venue provides. Booking can be made by phoning the club on 5289 1462. The restaurant will commence trading in October. It is anticipated that it will be open each night during summer.
Finally, after five years leading the club toward its standout season in 2019, Peter Spring, Peter Jacobs, Tony Peddie, Ingrid Coulson and Don Baldwin have retired from the committee. Joining the committee are Peter Barraclough (President), Marilyn Mackenzie (Secretary), Steve Donne (Match Committee Chair), Harley Davies, Janet McLeod and Bob Sinclair. David Stribling, Allan Walls, Gary Allen, Helga Lewis and John Russell are continuing. The new leadership team is keen to welcome all community members to feel they are part of the club, whether they are competition or social bowlers, or just looking to enjoy a meal or drink in one of the town’s truly unique and friendly clubs.
A reminder that the new green is available for group bookings and barefoot social bowling right through the season up to 9 pm. We look forward to welcoming you to the club sometime soon.
