Lorne P-12 Success Australian Snowsports Championships

When people think about Lorne and sporting activities, the usual ones that come to mind are football, netball, surfing, lawn bowls etc. It’s fair to say that over the years, Lorne has produced some champions, some champion teams and some great competition results in these activities. Well as incredible as it might seem, we can now add Snowsports to the list of sporting activities in which Lorne has excelled. That’s right, you read it correctly – Snowsports!

Lorne’s small population has always had an affiliation with the outdoors and an active sporting community, now adding snowsports to the repertoire of achievements. It’s only logical that snowboarding and skiing would sit alongside the surfing and skate-boarding culture on the Surfcoast.

Recently, the competitors from the little public school down the surf coast, held their own against a high level of national student athletes, ably supported, cheered on and charged up by their teachers, and family coaches and mentored by Lydia and Lauri Lassila.

The team of both skiers and snowboarders had to qualify at the Victorian Interschools Snowsports in August to move into the Australian Interschools Snowsports Championships. This competition had over 250 schools with 1500 students from all over Australia travel to Mt Buller to participate in 9 different disciplines, with around 3000 event entries.

After the team’s fantastic success at the Victorian Interschools Snowsports championships, Lorne had 7 students represent Lorne P-12 College at the 2019 Australian Interschools Snowsports Championships held at Mt Buller on the 5th to 7thof September.

This competition had over 250 schools with 1500 students from all over Australia with travel to Mt Buller to participate in 9 different disciplines, with around 3000 event entries.

On top of the Vic Interschool success in August, Lorne had some outstanding results at a National level last week:
